West Vee's gonna have a new head coach the year after next. Their new OC from Oh Kay State will be taking over for Stewart. Guess that good vibe shit he had after beating OU in the Fiesta Bowl is long gone.

Once TCU gets there, it's TCU, then everybody else.

Stanford pounds Va Tech like random guy pounding Athena Batista in the Orange Bowl. 27-0 in the 2nd half, after leading 13-12 at the half. Incredible. Now this year's Coaching Flavor of the Year gets to decide if he'll go pro, stay put or go 'home' to Michigan.

Luck has till next week to decide if he wants to stay in school or be a Hello Kitty in the NFL come April.

Time to wish Rich Rod well in his future endeavors. Subpar at Michigan after blowing it up in Morgantown with the Mountaineers. Was the Flavor of the Month, now he's looking for another gig. (Possibly Pitt since their previous hire couldn't resist going all Ike Turner on his baby mama?)

Now to see if the Ole Sweater Vest can salvage the bowl season for the Mini Ten and get Ink State off of the SEC skids (0-9 lifetime against Da SEC in bowl games).

Maybe Mallett can strike a blow for all of Michigan's faithful who have had to endure OSU whippin' that ass like an abusive spouse since Tressel's arrival.

Well, as everyone sat down yesterday to get ready for their BBQs or just chill on a day off, Jim Tressel quit as head coach of The "We Trade Gear For Ink" State University otherwise known as Ohio State. This comes after he was more or less outed for knowing more than he let on knowing about the indiscretions of several of his players trading memorabilia for free tattoos, which is a HUGE no-no by the NCAA.

Said players were given a 5 game ban going into this coming season, but were allowed to play in the Sugar Bowl which they barely won against SEC power Arkansas. Now, in light of everything that's come out since then, it looks like that could be wiped off the books. Possibly the national title they shouldn't have won in 2002 as well, if this SI piece is legitimate. Odds are the NCAA is going to put this rabid dog down for a while, to show folks that the lawless aren't running this thing and that they're not just biased against schools from the South and West (most notably Alabama, USC & Da U have felt the wrath of the NCAA in years past). Somebody better cue Taker's old school theme, because Ohio State's about to REST. IN. PEEEEAAACCCEEEE!

Eh, Ohio State's problem is that they got caught. Or Tressel did, whoever. I'm sure the Alabamas, Miamis (there's no way Jacory Harris is not getting something under the table), Texas etc, all the schools are doing it.

u-sed-da-troof...

In cases like this, take a look at the NCAA leadersip. Myles Brand was a traditional mid-west guy. Now the NCAA is run by west coast guys (Jim Isch and Mark Emmert). Michigan has been in the shitter for a few years; bring Ohio State down and the NCAA's single super "semi-pro" league becomes even more of a reality. Sacrificing the Big 10 is probably only amusing for them. The ease of travel and the potential for a specialized NCAA football network gives them a reason to try to expedite this. And if all they have to do is expose Ohio State, that works for them.

But like you said, all of the big schools have athletes doing this stuff. With Isch and Emmert having direct ties to the SEC and Pac-10, though, no one is going to be bringing LSU, Arkansas, or Washington down for any of this stuff any time soon... because no one from the NCAA will even be investigating them.

The idea that Ohio State is somehow the only place where "stupid people made stupid decisions" is just Grimey drivel.

Alabama and Miami both served time for their indiscretions and Bama has since rebounded from it. (Miami, not so much. Come to think of it, I don't think they've won an ACC crown since the year they lost to Ink State for the National Championship.)

I won't go as far to say that they're all dirty, but if you're going to be dirty, be smart about how you do it. Yeah, there are schools doing it. But unlike Ohio State and its former head coach "Senator" Jim Tressel, they weren't or haven't been caught yet. And yes HEN, it really does boil down to smart people doing stupid shit and getting caught. Grimey never said it's just happening at Ohio State. It just so happens that the NCAA's locked in on them now, because the skeletons won't stay in the closet. And if this thing goes as deep as this upcoming SI article indicates that it does, I can forsee many heads getting clipped GoodFellas style before it's all said and done.

EAW does not wish to wade into the pool of national of day of burning sweater vests, but he does have one simple thing to point out. All these fine journalists going about their duty to expose the infractions against NCAA rules committed by Tressel and the cover-ups he and his minions did, they did the work of investigative reporters and they were right to find what they did and report on it as they did; but now, with the exposes done, can they ask the one question left unasked - do NCAA rules make sense?

EAW has no love for The Ohio State. It is not an excuse for Tressel's behavior. He did what he did. He did it knowingly. He broke the rules as set down. But in the midst of the hand-wringing and Jim Rome moralistic sermons, why is no one saying - uh, folks, every month we roast another coach and another program, and it, um, well, it's not going to stop, is it?

NCAA rules are funny, in a quaint "oh dear, those villagers wear wooden shoes" sort of way. But it is not funny to keep pretending, day after day, month after month, year after year that college football is not a business that pays big money to everyone except the hardest workers.

Looking at the story, you're not confronted with $300,000 payouts to superstar QBs, you're looking at guys trying to make rent money, get weed, and have shtty looking tattoos and maybe some chains while getting free food and playing video games. These are small dreams from small kids.

Now some, like bloated puckered a-hole of Bill Plaschke, will say - "Hey, no one helped me out in college when I went there, man. I was broke, too. I got shtty part time jobs."

Fair point. Except, if you're on a football squad, you can't get a job. That's why these guys took the no-show jobs from boosters, because they can't hold down a real job while doing college football full time during the season or the off-season for that matter. Practice, playbook studies, gym and etc. prevent anyone outside of special team players from holding down a job that even most college kids could pull. No matter what the colleges say about "limited" practices they set down, if you go to a powerhouse school or a school that thinks it is a powerhouse, you are doing more hours of practice a week than whatever guidelines NCAA sets down. It's the norm, not the exception.

Cam Newton stories makes everyone think that these guys are hunting for free cash in briefcases. They're not. They're just trying to make ends meet. For every superstar QB with greedy parents and hand out uncles, there is a broke kid with a bad meal plan trying to have money to pay the rent, get food, and possibly not look like a third world country war survivor by having good clothes.
